Searching for a little inspiration?

Hello from Nashville, Reader!

I made it to the next stop on Samantha's world tour. If you missed it, I'm auditioning cities to be my next home base so for about the next month, I'll be living in Nashville. I can say that we're off to a great start - you know when the logistics just work and it makes you feel like a little bit of a mastermind? I had a bit of that experience in getting to my temporary apartment while here. Feels great :)

But as a result of all the travel I've done in the last week or so, I've had some great time to consume content and damn is there some great stuff out there. So I'm going to keep this newsletter brief (I've got a city to go explore!) and pass along some of the things I've come across in the past week or so that are chock full of inspiration, insight or honestly, I just think are worth your time!

  1. I looooved this episode of the Tim Ferriss Podcast with Cal Newport all about slow productivity and choosing how to spend your time. It's a long episode but the depth that they go to is so enjoyable and as a staunchly anti-hustle culture girl, this had some really thought provoking challenges I'm still mulling over.
  2. I've been coping with the intensity of this election season by returning to old episodes of the West Wing. I can't count how many times I've seen this show but the writing, the humor, the way they use music to add drama. If you haven't ever watched, I highly recommend (and if you have watched, maybe time for a rewatch?)
  3. In my repacking process, I got to pull out the books that I couldn't let go of while I'm on this crazy digital nomad year (I recapped them in this TikTok post). This is basically a summary of most of my greatest hits (there are a few I've read on Kindle that I don't have the physical copy), if you're looking for a new read!
  4. Call it getting into the Nashville mood, but I'm vibing with Kelsea Ballerini's new album, Patterns. I think she's a testament to the healing power of boldly feeling your feelings and this album, especially the song Baggage, is a great depiction of how you don't have to be perfectly healed to get into a relationship, you just have to honest with yourself.

I hope you enjoy one or all of these little tidbits - if you do, shoot me a note back so we can chat about them?

Have a great week y'all!

Samantha

P.S. Know this is a new format, so also feel free to let me know your thoughts!

Hi my dear, The world is feeling pretty heavy right now. The aftermath of the election had a lot of us reeling (myself included!) and I found myself wondering how I'm supposed to interact with a world that feels pretty riddled with conflict, doubt and confusion? What's the balance of wanting to be happy and enjoy your life while not sticking your head in the sand and ignoring very real problems in the world that need solving? When is it okay to say "I can't handle this right now" and when is...

Are you doing a "Winter Arc," Reader? This trend, popularized by @carlyupgraded on TikTok, basically talks about taking advantage of the remaining quarter of the year (rather than writing off this time of year and saying that you'll start your goals in January, along with the rest of the planet). The concept reinforces that there's no need to wait for arbitrary start dates to start moving forward. I saw this and first instinct was to eye roll about another trendy name/concept for a basic...

If you're anything like me, Reader, then at some point in your life (maybe right now!) that desire to shut it all off can be very real.
